The Long Tail Economics

The Long Tail is an economic situation where everything is available for everyone. It is, as “The Long Tail” book says it,  ”the rise of the niche”.

The pursue of individuality and social relevance have been around. Items that state a social status has always been desired, but until not so long ago, only the elites had access to the luxury of customization. Nonetheless this has changed in the last two decades as more people are able to demand and obtain unique products that reflect their personality and lifestyle. Why? Internet and markets internationalization have accelerated the reduction of the cost of reaching many different customers around the world, with different tastes and demands. These two facts matched and the result is that economic markets shifted in the last decade from a “one-size-fits-all” model of mass appeal to one of unlimited variety for unique tastes: Niche markets.
